Celebrate Napa Food Day 2014! Locally, the priority areas of Food Day 2014 in Napa County are food education and food access, with a special emphasis on urban farming. Throughout the week’s activities, community residents will be provided with tools and resources they can use to start community gardens, school gardens and develop their own urban farms. The following events are a sampling of what’s planned for the Napa County Food Day celebrations. Click here for the full list of events.
There will be numerous screenings of the film Growing Cities throughout the County. Growing Cities examines the power of urban farming to revitalize and transform our food system. October 17th Growing Cities will be shown at Calistoga Elementary at 6:30pm. October 20th the film will be shown at Napa Valley College at 4pm. On October 24th at 6:00pm the film will be shown at the Copia in downtown Napa and followed by an interactive paneled discussion. The movie will have Spanish subtitles at the Calistoga and Copia showings.
The Food Day organizing committee will be hosting a booth at Oxbow Public Market’s Local’s Night on October 21st from 6:00-8:00pm. Information on Food Day, food education, and local, sustainable living will be made available.
On Saturday, October 25th at the Napa Farmer’s Market, partnering organizations will join forces for a health and wellness fair. This will showcase the importance of fresh local eating, and information on sustainable farming in Napa County. Participants will then be invited to participate in a community bike ride led by Napa Bike Coalition to Connolly Ranch’s Harvest Festival (1:00pm-4:00pm). The Harvest Festival will have interactive, family friendly activities including an apple press, scavenger hunt, and crop swap.
Together we can create an initiative to transform the food and health for all of Napa County. Join us to celebrate “eating real” throughout the week of October 17-25th!
